Maryland Tax Lawyer – Senior Associate with Thorn Law Group
Tarah Kane has been with Thorn Law Group since 2010 where she focuses her legal practice on advising clients on both complex national and international tax law matters. She advocates for individual taxpayers, partnerships, trusts, banks and other organizations in Maryland, across the United States, and in countries throughout the world involved in a wide variety of business and criminal tax law disputes.
Ms. Kane has a solid understanding of both domestic and foreign tax law matters. She regularly counsels and assists taxpayers struggling with the strict laws and regulations governing offshore bank accounts and assets. She is very familiar with the procedures the government uses to identify undisclosed foreign accounts and works with clients to make sure they are complying with applicable legal requirements. When taxpayers have undisclosed offshore accounts, she helps them avoid the harshest penalties by taking advantage of the IRS Voluntary Disclosure Program (OVDP).
Ms. Kane frequently advises clients in connection with complex reporting requirements under the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). She also navigates clients through sensitive federal tax audits and appeals and handles tax disputes and tax litigation before the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Justice and the U.S. Tax Court.
Ms. Kane holds an LL.M in Taxation from the University of Washington School of Law and received her J.D. degree from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. She is admitted to practice in both the District of Columbia and Massachusetts.
